The Higher Self concept

The idea of the higher self.

The meeting

Every few weeks some very good friends and I meet to catch up. Yesterday, three of us met up and chatted about what we’d been up to since our last gathering. At these reunions, we always end up working instead of relaxing. It’s not something we plan but it just happens. Both friends are avid explorers of consciousness, awareness and accomplished teachers too. But, something always triggers an in-depth discussion around teachings or concepts. It’s as if we are drawn together for this purpose without consciously realising it at the time. We don’t mind because we end up learning something every time.

This time, one of us mentioned a concept that we had actively been working with a few weeks earlier. It felt right to eleborate as a group! The idea had been buzzing around in each of our heads for some time, and now we were actively verbalising it.

Looking back

The higher self concept sprang from the idea that we are more than we believe as our physical self, and its home is beyond this realm. Because of the God concept we all know about, we promptly placed this higher self in a superior position. Something that is grander and above our station. This idea soon spread across the spiritual communities, and everybody was using the term. Unfortunately, this current term directs us towards a separation, with the ego here, and the higher self up there. It would be best if we are careful in how we create a perspective that echoes the old method of viewing our real selves, our complete selves, immaterial of the dimension we find ourselves in. We are, of course, looking for unity consciousness in all aspects.

Looking forward

In the last few months, an increase in awareness has brought a new concept to mind. This is something that was brought to me, personally, from Source. My Essence pointed out that the origins of Self come from within, as well as our own universe that is also within. This is something that I shared with my friend when teaching some channelling work. This is ALL located in the depths of the heart centre. It is a concept that I have been contemplating on how to integrate into my teachings, for a while. We all seem to default to talking about the higher self, but today it no longer feels right! It's as if this is no longer portraying the correct aspect of self, relative to the rest of our experience across all dimensions. So when my friend mention this aspect of self, the rest of us jumped at the chance to strongly agree. It felt so right, and that the rest felt horribly wrong. Her version was the deeper self, another idea was the inner self and my version, the Essence of self.

Going forward

I will strive to include this perspective as an alternative from now on within my teachings. It will take some explaining to convert the idea for the clients, but I’m sure they will understand the reasoning behind the changes when I explain.

In Conclusion

Naturally, this is not set in stone, we all have our personal perspective. I think the importance here, is to eliminate any chance of distance concepts that create a subconscious separation from our Essence!
